About Rex Allen
The Arizona Cowboy
Rex Allen was born on December 31, 1920, in Willcox, Arizona, and became known worldwide as “The Arizona Cowboy.” A gifted singer, actor, and narrator, Allen began his career in radio before rising to fame in the 1950s as a singing cowboy in Western films produced by Republic Pictures.
He starred in 19 movies and later became the voice of countless Disney nature films and TV shows, earning the nickname “The Voice of the West.”
Beyond Hollywood, Rex Allen remained proud of his roots in Willcox and often returned to his hometown. In 1951, the community held the first Rex Allen Days in his honor, a celebration that continues to this day. Allen passed away in 1999, but his legacy lives on through his music, films, and the annual festival that bears his name.
